You plant the seed, water it, and fertilize it for an entire year. Nothing happens. You do the same for the second year. Still nothing breaks the soil. Third year. Fourth year. Nothing. It requires immense discipline to keep watering patches of bare dirt. The neighbors will call you a fool. Then, in the fifth year, a sprout breaks through. And in the next six weeks, that bamboo grows 90 feet tall. The Insight: Did the bamboo grow 90 feet in six weeks, or did it grow 90 feet in five years? It grew over five years.
